The rise in sexist online harassment has skyrocketed since Donald Trump won the US election last week. Whilst the election took place in the USA, prominent men from the “manosphere” have been celebrating and goading girls and women around the world. I don’t want to be scaremongering because whilst we fear what will happen to reproductive rights (as well as LGBTQ+, immigration etc) - none of us know yet. I hope Project 2025 never happens. But regardless of all of that, It’s been really unsettling to hear chants of “your body, my choice”, and even men calling for women to have their right to vote revoked. I think it’s really important we - and by we I mean men and women - pay attention to what is happening and the language our boys are using around girls both on and offline. And I think if our politicians on the left don’t start listening to WHY people voted for Donald Trump, we could face the same fate over here. But that’s something I want to talk about another time - right now, I want to focus on the violent and misogynistic rhetoric. Here in the UK, violence against women and girls has already been declared a national emergency and yet young men think feminism has done more harm than good. According to research, 1 in 4 young men in the uk think it’s harder to be a man than a woman. It’s undeniable the popularity of online misogynists like Andrew Tate. Men, I’d love to know why you think young men are looking to the Trumps and Tates ? Why are women not being heard when we say we’re really frightened? What is leading young men away from liberalism and feminism? For me, it’s such a scary time to be raising both a son and a daughter. I don’t want Alf to be around the violent rhetoric, and I don’t want Ada to grow up in a world that elevates a man convicted of sexual assault to the highest position of power. 🥹💔 #fyp
