@ardash_2: Joachim Peiper (30 January 1915 – 14 July 1976) was a German Waffen-SS officer during World War II. He served on the Eastern Front, in Italy, and on the Western Front. He is best known for commanding Kampfgruppe Peiper during the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, Peiper was arrested by the Allies and tried in the Malmedy Trial. He was initially sentenced to death, but his sentence was later commuted to imprisonment. Following legal controversies surrounding the trial and a review of the case, he was released in 1956. After his release, Peiper lived a civilian life in Germany before later moving to France. On 14 July 1976, he died after his home in Traves, France, was set on fire in an arson attack. #creatorsearchinsight
