My mom hated cartoons. Even ones that had adult humour. So she would always say "shut that shit off you're not babies" Even when my brother and I tried to explain it wasn't a show meant for "babies"

its crazy because there isn't that much inappropriate content in the Simpsons. The entire smear campaign was that Bart is a brat and doesn't listen to his parents. but in reality the plot usually contains some kind of natural consequences for Bart and he gets put in his place. I feel like kids will glean way more from that then a show that isn't trying to tackle any difficult topics

My mum and grandmother wouldn’t let me and I saw my dad once a year for 3 weeks and he had the whole collection on dvd so he would put them on for me and watch them with me and he would remember where we were up to when I left and he waited until the next year to watch it with me again

Lol this reminds me of a time when an acquaintance of my mum was around and the Simpsons was on. She had a mini rant about how bad they were and how she'd never let her kids watch them. Turns out she'd had her kids removed from her for most of their lives lol.
