My grandfather was D-day plus a few days in France. He said the best meal he had was Thanksgiving in 1945. He said they had canned whole turkeys that were canned in 1922 according to the stamping. He said they all ate it.😂

my dad loved liverwurst sandwiches on an onion roll with ketchup. we had sauerkraut & boiled potatoes as side dishes often, and split pea soup was one of his favorites. his grandmother had immigrated from Germany before WWI.

German soldiers got Scho-ka-kola. It's chocolate that has added caffeine. As far as I know it was the only chocolate that was produced at the end of the war in Germany and only given to soldiers. It's still sold and tastes very nice. It's in a round metal tin and there is a dark chocolate and milk chocolate version.

WW1 or WW2 this was a staple lunch meal at my German/French grandparents house. Add the watered down lunch beer, both working out on the farm in the Okla heat and humidity, The food was filling and the watered-down light beer was refreshing And you could get your work done without being smashed 🤣👍 I got tea 😳

German military issued methamphetamine-infused chocolate during World War II. Known as "Panzerschokolade" ("tank chocolate") or "Fliegerschokolade" ("flyer's chocolate"), these treats were specifically distributed to tank crews, pilots, and elite units to suppress fatigue, mask fear, and push them to fight continuously for days. Per World War II historians and highly documented in physical form in Old field rations

I remember my grandmother telling me how they used to dig up the roots of some plant, dry the roots and use it as coffee during WWII. As well as hearing and seeing the german planes in the sky, sometimes even hearing bombs go off. and she lived in Sweden.

Pervitin was issued to pilots in case they were downed, that way they could make it back to friendly lines. It was also issued to infantry and vehicle crews, but just to stay awake, it, in no way, made them super soldiers or anything of that nature.
