I look at education this way, just imagine if higher education costs were absorbed: the access to college and knowledge is hidden behind a paywall

Yeah, I live in Abu Dhabi and had my last child here for $150 because I had some other medical issues but in the states my c-section cost $23k. Currently $12 each dr appt & er visit. My child epi pens are $40 compared to $700 in the US. I will stay until we have to leave! 8 years in with 3 kids

The only reason I don't have any medical debt is because I can't afford to go to a doctor to find out if I have a condition that I can't afford to care for.

I worked for a teaching hospital in the SF Bay Area. I had a 5 day stay in the CICU for observation awaiting a minor surgery. The bill I saw was 500k. Now I worked there so I ended up paying very little but the notion that they would bill someone that amount is crazy.

i had to get a steroid shot bc i was having an unknown allergic reaction - urgent care refused to see me so i had to go to the ER - they charged me over $4500 and i have to pay $1700 after insurance bc of coinsurance and deductible nonsense.

This change in healthcare occurred during my lifetime. Total bill for my US birth in Texas was $225. 23 years later my first cost $5000 just as the insurance deductible. My third it was even higher. Our taxes should pay for universal healthcare. I grew up with it in Germany and The Netherlands.

My first was born in 1999 and total cost with private room was $225, and that included my first visit, all prenatal care, hospital stay, and 6 weeks postpartum check up. 6 years later my second with private room was $3500 to walk in hospital doors, each appointment and postpartum visit were separate copays.
