It is a financial independence provided by your partner: real estate, investments, monthly income and all expenses covered If he leaves tomorrow and you have to go back to work, you were not retired. You were simply maintained. True retirement is a sustainable financial security.

every time i look into those stories, their husband is just some dude with a regular job. like, access to debt is not retirement. i’d need to see at least $2M CAD cash plus no mortgage to consider retirement 🤷♀️my condition would be being able to afford the bills on fixed income investments plus emergency savings. if stocks crash i don’t want to be forced into realizing those losses, hence the need for a larger starting sum..

They don’t know what retired means. “Retired” is not the same as “not working because my man pays the bills” . My man can pay the bills but I work because I get income, extended health , RRSP matching, life insurance etc from my job . Why would I give that up even if I don’t need the job and don’t want to work
