I think the key thing here is that in the Dominican Republic you have the same CULTURAL LIFESTYLE. If someone from idk Czech Republic wanted to date a Dominican, most mothers would say find a Dominican man.

Colorism is definitely a big thing in dr. I have family who is very white skinned from el sibao and you definitely hear the comments and the distribution of power in dr with such a big black population also points to definite issues with colorism which isn’t completely seperate from racism.

I’m a daughter of an immigrant & a Black American. Unfortunately, America was built on racism that’s a lot deeper than people can imagine. White & Black Americans are not only racially different but culturally different and our historical and present experience shows that. Many people in different countries and cultures want to marry within their own; whether that be by religion, country, race, upbringing etc. because they “get” eachother/understand each others struggles & experiences on a personal level. This type of thought process will never change anywhere in the world - but it is not exclusive to America.

Americans are kinda obsessed with race, I'm also Dominican and we see things differently, not that we don't know we have African heritage, but we don't care. I think the US has a lot to learn from other countries such as Brazil or even the DR about race.

En RD pasa igual😭😭 pero no tanto, si es común escuchar eso de “mejorar la raza” entonces está bien visto que un moreno/negro se case con un blanco, pero del parte del blanco muchas veces no es deseado! Siento q ahora la juventud no le da mente a eso tho
