01/06/2024 As I was going through my camera roll to find moments worth sharing, I got kinda bummed. I felt like I didn’t do anything exciting in 2023. But once I put all the clips together, I realized that there was something different about this year that made it better than the others: I was surrounded by people. Since 2020, I’ve been pretty isolated. First because of the pandemic and second because of becoming a truck driver. I’ve always considered myself an introvert, so the idea of being alone for 14 hours a day excited me at the beginning. But you can only truly know the desires of your heart after you get what you THOUGHT you wanted. In March, I went through a pretty dark depression. I was so lonely that it was making me physically ill. So, I decided to leave my position in Fontana, CA that made me $1,000 a week to pursue a position in the ports division out of Long Beach. Everyone told me not to do. EVERYONE. They said there was no money over there, but Long Beach was closer to my friends than Fontana so I ignored them. Lol. Now I’m making $160 for a 10-11 hour shift. That’s $16 an hour. To drive a semi-truck. Minimum wage. TO DRIVE A SEMI-TRUCK. Not to mention they have slow days so sometimes they can only give me 3 shifts a week. That’s about $375 after taxes. So, I’ve decided to leave trucking completely. I haven’t quit yet, but I’m in the process of applying for customer service positions. I’d rather make minimum wage by helping people than making minimum wage sitting down all day by myself developing lower back pain. To be fully honest you guys, I’m drowning at the moment. I’m struggling to pay my bills, I can barely afford to eat, and I have no idea what the future holds. But I’m so happy. So, thank you to everyone who has been a part of my life this past year. You have been my compass, you’ve given me purpose, and you’ve become my biggest passion. It’s corny, but it’s the truth. Bye 2023. #happynewyear #newyearsresolution #2024 #trucking #trucker #truckerlife #losangeles #2023recap #shuffledance
