Yet another reason sociology and anthropology need to be taught in high school. I also studied both in college and it was like a light switch went off. I suspect it's not taught sooner for this exact reason.

My grandmother was a Suffragette. After women got the vote, she was very upset that black women(and men) were not included. Off she went to Montgomery etc to help get black people the right to vote, too. She was a role model for her kids, grandkids, and great-grands. No racists allowed. That’s how we can fight racism. Set an example. Teach love, not hate.

I had a high school American History teacher that issued our textbooks and told us to bring them home and keep them safe to return at the end of the year. He then told us to go buy a different book for about $15 that he actually taught out of. His lectures were the best and taught us the true history of our country and what these revered leaders were actually like. That was back in the 90’s. Teachers couldn’t get away with that now!

I'm so thankful for my sociology degree. People like to joke that it's worthless (as if increased income is the only reason to earn an education), the PERSPECTIVE on the world it has opened my eyes to is priceless.

During Covid lockdown with lots of time I got audible and I listened to several college semesters of lectures or classes on our country specifically the civil war a whole years worth of lectures and yes I learned a lot changed me!we need people to be educated
