regardless of if it should or shouldn't have been a goal - it makes a HUGE difference - on a game where 3 goals are scored 1 goal counting or not counting is a HUGE difference

Then explain why does the game stops if the ball hits the referee? Its because the ball obviously didn't reach the intended player because of the cable. Its the same thing as when the ball hits the referee.
