@miketanongako: NAIA makes a lot more sense once you realize it wasn’t built all at once. Its layout is really the result of decades of expansion as Metro Manila grew around the airport. Sources: Manila International Airport Authority (History of MIAA), Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, Philippine Daily Inquirer “Privatizing NAIA”, The Philippine Star “Uncertain Future: What’s Next for NAIA?”, The Philippine Star “15-Year NAIA Transformation Takes Flight.” #DidYouKnow #funfacts #themoreyouknow #philippinehistory #naia
in the case of NMIA, they built the airport at the expense of Several Bulacan and Pampanga Towns, submerging them permanently in water.

Extra Fun fact: important distinction, While NAIA have four separate terminals they share the same runways. Also, Terminal 4 is the oldest terminal. Followed by Terminal 1, 2, and then 3. Di ko rin gets bakit ganun naming system nila 😅

And NAIA is using intersecting runways instead of parallel. You can't operate both at the same time like in a parallel where one can be used for takeoffs and the other for landings. The airport wasn't designed for this capacity let alone handle huge international airlines.

urban planning fail...
methinks... if substancial structure was laid out as they move it to a new location, factors including construction infrastructures must also be factored in.
unless it just made for a band aid solution...

Iirc, NAIA is ranked the #1 worst airport in the world. The "doors/entrance" to the country being such a mess leaves an impression on how the Philippine government is.
