The World Cup is supposed to be about fair competition, but this tournament has left serious questions about the consistency of refereeing. In Norway’s match against England, England’s first goal should have been reviewed after the ball appeared to hit a camera wire. If the ball contacted an outside agent, the Laws of the Game require play to be stopped and restarted with a dropped ball. Norway’s disallowed goal also should have stood, as physical contact is common during corner kicks and Andersson was holding Haaland before the challenge. In the Argentina vs. Egypt match, Egypt’s disallowed goal was another highly controversial decision. There have been too many questionable refereeing calls throughout this World Cup, and they have affected important matches. FIFA, when will every nation be treated equally? Fans deserve consistent decisions and the same application of the rules for every team, regardless of the size of the nation.
