Your hands swell when you walk because physical exertion causes increased blood flow to your muscles and skin. This forces blood vessels in your hands to widen and allows fluid to temporarily leak into the surrounding tissues. Gravity and the swinging motion of your arms can further pool this fluid in your fingers.
The phenomenon is medically known as Post Ambulatory Swollen Hands (POTASH).

Yes its absolutely normal! Especially in the heat. Its due to pooling of blood and fluid by gravity. You can try to not swing your arms as much and also try to hold things in your hands with your arms bent at 90 degrees to keep your forearms engaged which will help the blood go back to your heart.

How to Prevent and Manage It
Most exercise-related swelling resolves on its own within an hour after you finish walking. To manage or prevent it while you are out:
Remove tight items: Take off rings and loosen your watchband before you start walking.
Flex your fingers: Periodically open and close your hands or rotate your wrists while walking to promote blood circulation and help pump fluid back up your arms.
Use trekking poles: Gripping and releasing trekking poles (or light hand weights) engages your forearm muscles, which helps pump blood and prevents pooling.
Adjust your hydration: Avoid over-hydrating with just plain water. For longer walks, consider a sports drink that contains electrolytes to maintain your sodium balance.
If your hands are painful, turn blue/red, or if the swelling persists long after you stop walking, you should consult a healthcare provider.

Do you think that’s normal?

Several factors contribute to this condition:
Thermoregulation: As your body works hard, your muscles generate heat. To cool down, blood is sent to the vessels closest to your skin. This can lead to fluid buildup in the hands.
Gravity and Centrifugal Force: Swinging your arms downward while walking causes gravity and centrifugal force to push fluids into your extremities.
Hyponatremia: In rarer cases, swollen hands can indicate exercise-associated hyponatremia—a potentially dangerous, low level of sodium in the blood caused by drinking too much plain water without electrolytes.

Cortisol spike? Causing fluid retention and feeding sodium retention causing puffiness? Try reducing sodium and increasing water intake.
