VAR’s job is not to call down and issue cards on the pitch. They are there to make sure the right call is made. They can’t call down and say give a card, but they can say the given card went to the wrong person.

I don’t love the optics of it, but it is technically the right call. Because the ref issued a yellow and VAR called down it has to be issued to the player that “attempted to create an advantage by drawing a foul” which is what he did.

This was the best call, and will do the most good for the sport as a whole to stop flopping. That guy’s simulation probably cost his team, and their country, opportunities to progress. They should stop flopping more than any other call I’ve seen this far. It was amazing.
