@thejamiebrindle: “We’ll just use AI.” Share your stories in the comments for the rest of us: - have any of your freelance clients started suggesting AI as a replacement for some of your services? - is there a concern that your industry is going to be replaced by AI? - do you love AI and have already adopted it into your offer?
That would require them to think beyond the savings. They’ll figure it out, but ONLY the hard way, and only after trying to make it work over and over again.

A lot of companies used AI rather than hiring me (developer with 20+ years experience). One client fired me.
3 months later, those same companies called me and asked me to fix it or that AI was to expensive.
Guess who upped his hourly rate and they accepted? 🤣😂

How about when they say.. yeah but now it takes you 5 hours instead of 10.. or are you billing by project and not hours?

you still need to grind and debug and architect well and know about separation of concerns and unit tests and intégration tests AND PAY FOR THE TOKENS

it's not a question of which is better. it's a question of if the client can do it to an acceptable level.

The question is, when does the amateur become a professional with AI 😏

The real problem is the client may drop you without this conversation or explanation. "Oh we have decided to move in another direction, and no longer need your services" rather than telling you that they are simply replacing you with AI. The underlying truth is that an expert can almost always use AI better simply because they know that to ask and can recognize AI hallucinations far better than a Novice can (even when using the same AI system). The problem is... "but I can get an acceptable result on the cheap" problem.

in many cases the followup and the unprofessional project handling cost way more than an amateur doing the job and enhancing it and learning by time

You still need to know if the output is what you need and not necessarily what You want.

Try to make changes and security improvements to your AI app then probably someone will be cheaper than tokens at least for now

AI excels at the jobs it does well - you just need to know which ones those are and catch the spurious outputs

Lost a project the other day to AI. Was a bit of a blow so I’ve just got an AI course to learn more. hopefully get a small showreel out in the next month or 2 because it’s only going one way and I need to offer it as an option alongside my regular animation
