A footage from 1960, taken about 66 years ago, gives a rare and beautiful glimpse into the city of Lagos Island as life moved at its own peaceful rhythm. The morning streets slowly came alive as men and women stepped out to begin their daily activities, walking to work, trading, and carrying on with everyday life in one of Nigeria’s most important cities. The footage also captures the Cathedral Church of Christ in Marina, one of the oldest and most important Christian landmarks in Lagos. The church was built beginning in 1924 and was finally completed in 1946. Standing proudly in the heart of the city, it became a symbol of faith and colonial-era architecture that witnessed many important moments in Nigeria’s history. One striking part of the footage is the sight of people proudly dressed in traditional clothing. Men and women moved through the streets wearing their cultural attire with confidence and pride, showing a time when tradition remained deeply visible in everyday life. The video was filmed by the Mission to Seamen’s Coast and today serves as more than just old footage. It is a window into a Lagos many never saw, a Lagos before modern skyscrapers, before endless traffic, and before the city transformed into the fast moving megacity we know today. “THEATER OF BLOOD” 📕 Official OUT NOW and 📕 UNTOLD CHRONICLES Vol. 1 is still available for purchase..
