@aheadmatthewawsome: Did you know Sydney's home to the longest moving walkway in the Southern Hempishere? When it works... It has 2 entrances from Hyde Park & St Mary's Cathedral in the City connecting to the Domain Car Park. It opened on the 9th of June 1961 as the longest moving walkway in the world! Later on this title was taken away in 2012. Lately it's been plauged by mechanical issues which has caused it to decay further. There was a plan to demolish it in 2022 to turn the walkway and car park into a theatre complex. This was declined by council who are now advocating to the State Government, and the car park owners to restore the walkway to full operations. Most people would never know what was going on just underneath Sydney!
There are a fair few issues regarding the walkway to make it compliant for today's standards, including being able to have wheelchairs used on it. The gradient which changes, width of the tunnel itself (too narrow would have to be expanded) & that it's very complicated to install a lift where the exit is (engineering wise.)
Multiple complications that make the improvements very expensive and hard to justify.

Fix it. It's useful. Beautiful. And safer for many to use.

As someone who freaking loves the gentle speed up of a moving walk way, how dare you take me on such an emotional rollercoaster

This totally misses the mural running the entire length completed by artist Tim Guider who I saw there only 2 y ago restoring one of them. True community art. This is a historic mid century walkway which I always found quite useful when it did work. Should be repaired.

It used to work about 10 years ago. I used it plenty of times when it worked and it was so good.
