I was in the documentary. I now run a business. Was able to break the cycle of homelessness 🥺🫶. I did not allow my upbringing to determine where I was going to end up in life. If you remember the part where my mom was viewing my grades and I started crying because I didn’t do well. As young as I was, I knew and understood the importance of my education. Thankfully having that mindset I was able to go to a private 4 year university for my undergrad on a full ride scholarship. Bless the lord 💓

I was in the documentary, and I can tell you this, the cameras only captured a small piece of my story. They didn’t show the sleepless nights, the setbacks, or the battles I faced when no one was watching. From 2010 until now, life has tested me in every way possible. I’ve faced loss, failure, and moments where it felt like everything was against me. But through it all, I never gave up on myself. Now, at 26, I’m still building, still growing, and still fighting for the life I know I’m capable of. The documentary wasn’t the end of my story, it was only the beginning. Everything I’ve been through has shaped me into the man I’m becoming, and my greatest chapters are still ahead.

Hey!!! Anyone trying to restart in life can know it’s not much fun but I recommend elk city Oklahoma. I moved here from Florida I was in the same situation and I have a 2 bed house for $550 a month. Just throwing that out there if anyone is in a bad situation look into OK!!! It’s not that bad!

The interviewer was RUDE in my opinion. The boy was obviously being silly & dancing. She jumps to “are those gang signs” off the bat. What in the world. And who cares if a car part is on the kitchen table? He’s a mechanic! Come on now. I just started it but she’s making me angry. Maybe she gets better as it goes

My siblings and our family were featured in parts of the documentary. People often ask if we still keep in contact with the other families. We do keep in touch with a few of them, although over the years we’ve unfortunately lost contact with many others. I’m happy to say that the majority of the families are doing well today. ❤️Looking back, those were incredibly difficult times, but they also taught us resilience, strength, and how to survive through life’s toughest moments. Every now and then, my siblings and I watch the documentary together. It brings back so many memories and reminds us just how far we’ve come. We’re grateful for the journey, the lessons we learned, and the life we’ve built since then. ❤️❤️

I was a motel kid in Cali. I remember dumpster diving and found a game called mouse trap and it didn’t have all the pieces 🥺 but we still played with it. 25 years later my husband buys me the exact one with all pieces 🥰

My husband works with kids in Anaheim, and people would be shocked to hear just how many children are experiencing homelessness/severe poverty in that area. It’s so sad.

I teach at a school for children experiencing homelessness. Most of my babies live in motels or shelters. From time to time, in their cars or tents. Our school does a great job of helping them find stable housing and counseling.

I grew up bouncing from motel to motel as well. Most of the parents were addicts, (like mine) but there were some that were just genuinely struggling to afford rent. It’s really hard to find friends and community when you’re constantly being thrown around from place to place.
