Inreach is NOT worth it if you have an iPhone (unless you're backpacking for 3+ days) (I can't speak for other phone brands) many of the iPhones have satellite messaging and even better it's free, on top of that just check the weather prior to your hike and use your intuition, weather can change fast but if you check the weather beforehand you can be ready for whatever

Microspikes are only for low level walks spend more get crampons for hills

If you have an newer Iphone it has satellite service that works great. But i think the battery coud be better in the Garmin thing

Inreach was invaluable in helping my son when he got stuck in southern Greenland hiking. I was able to send help to get him. We use subscription only on the needed basis.

Inreach isnt necessary unless youre going alone into territory uve never been in and dont know the cell coverage.

I only used winter boot spikes once, on really icy trail, and I feel in love, they gripped like crazy. They were not the little spikes you usually see in stores, they were heavy-duty large blades with back and front huge claws for stability and climbing steep inclines. They give you so much confidence.

the nitecore NU20 headlamp is half the price for the same base function! i’ve never really needed a brighter light and i’m always finding myself night hiking. both are really solid options

out of curiosity, why get the cnoc, katadyn and the sawyer squeeze? surely the sawyer squeeze is a mix of both of them? and if you want a smaller bottle does the katadyn not fit on the cnoc?

theres a few long distance hikes abroad I dream of doing and I would get a garmin if I did. the UK feels too well trodden to ever need it... touch wood. the subscription is an added expense.

I truly dont understand the obsession with walking poles. Fine if you’re geriatric but ive hiked my whole life in the lofoten mountains and never needed them. Neither has my 63 year old father.
