@alishacollinsrealestate: Replying to @WiSue I was actually pretty proud of myself when I read this comment. This woman said she’s in year two after losing her husband, and she’s finally feeling more capable handling the maintenance and day-to-day responsibilities. And honestly, I think all of us who have found ourselves in this situation should be proud of that. Because my husband did everything outside. Everything. The barn. The trailers. The repairs. The projects. And while I’m going to be honest and say the outside of my property doesn’t look quite as good as it did when he was here, I can do things today that I couldn’t do two years ago. I can hook up the horse trailer. I can haul it almost anywhere. I can fix things around the barn. I can figure out problems that would have completely overwhelmed me a couple of years ago. And that matters. I think one of the hardest things about grief is realizing that you’re not only grieving a person. You’re grieving the life you had. The roles they filled. The things they knew how to do. The responsibilities they quietly carried. And suddenly you’re expected to know how to do all of it. Except you don’t. At least not right away. And I think we have to give ourselves grace in that. Actually, I think we should give ourselves grace all the time. Because whether it’s been two days, two months, or two years, we’re learning things we’ve never had to do before. We’re surviving situations we never asked to be in. And we’re doing the best we can. And honestly, that’s enough. So if you’re figuring out something today that you didn’t know how to do a year ago, be proud of yourself. Even the small wins count. Especially the small wins. #alishacollins #realestatebestie #casperwyoming #widowjourney #griefhealing

Today makes four years and while I’ve become way more independent simply because I had to… I don’t think the grief ever gets any easier. My husband took care of taxes, my car, and a lot of things that I didn’t appreciate him enough for!
