I think the hesitation on being called a hero stems from things like companies calling us healthcare workers “heroes” during COVID in lieu of actually paying us what we deserve and instead treating us like crap while using “hero” PR to make the companies look good

I was a paramedic for 10 years. If anyone called me a hero it would give me the ick. I was never a paragod. I understood that it takes countless people to "save a life". Your mistakes however those are yours alone.
