@motionraceworks: Keep your alternator alive with a Motion Raceworks alternator pulley! Factory or even aftermarket alternators are often times not created to handle high RPM. Our pulley is available in two sizes, 3” and 3.5”, these pulleys also come with shims for you to adjust the pulley if needed. Reference our chart for proper rpm range so you don’t slow your rpm down too much .
The alternator is designed to operate at a certain RPM even at idle.

Ok people, alternators have voltage regulators. The voltage regulator monitors the output, in most cars is 12v. If the alternator is spinning slowly, the regulator increases the voltage to the windings which increases the strength of the magnetic field which allows the alternator to generate the required voltage. If the alternator is spinning fast, it decreases the voltage to the field because the armature is cutting through the magnetic lines of flux at a faster rate and generates more voltage. Nearly all of them have both over and under voltage protection. If the alternator in question was designed for a car that maxes at 5000rpm and you are regularly using it at over 5000rpm, then a larger pulley will help stabilize the high side voltage.

only make sense if the belt is connected to the alternator and the crankshaft pulley alone only then it with get a different in ratio

This video really brought out the experts. I have a drag car with an alternator. It doesn’t have ac, radio or phone chargers. It just needs 12 plus volts going down the track. Oh by the way mine has a 5 inch pulley.

I rather put a smaller pulley & keep electronic components happier. Like fuel pump the injectors the computer stuff like that

we used to call these "underdrive pulleys". were more necessary when you changed the crank pulley size
