My six year old daughter “I need to do my reading so I’m smarter than everyone else”. Me “love your enthusiasm but let’s just try to be better than we were yesterday and do YOUR best”. Her “But surely my best is better than everyone else mum” 🫠 😂 Funny how they all have their own random motivation

When I was a kid I only started reading nonfiction bc of banned books 😂 I still strongly prefer fantasy, but the critical thinking skills and literacy are there!

schools are bringing back phonics! the district I substitute for uses phonics! of course this is going to vary by district and state but they aren't completely gone
