Key tensions between the characters feel underdeveloped, making the film’s emotional climax arrive with less impact than it should. Visually, the direction is serviceable but uninspired, often feeling more like filmed theater than cinema. Even Amsterdam’s picturesque setting can’t fully energize the film.
