Sen. Josh Hawley on Tuesday tore into Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun over the company’s safety record and called on him to resign. “You’re not focuses on safety, you’re not focused on quality, you’re not focused on transparency,” the Missouri senator said. “I think, actually, you’re focused on exactly what you were hired to do, which is that you’re cutting corners. You are eliminating safety procedures. You are sticking it to your employees. You are cutting back jobs because you’re trying to squeeze every piece of profit you can out of this company.” Sen. Hawley accused Mr. Calhoun of “strip-mining” the company and noted he was set to receive nearly $33 million in compensation this year. “You got a huge raise, a huge increase, so it’s working out great for you,” he said. “For the American people, they’re in danger. For your workers, they’re in peril. For your whistleblowers, they literally fear for their lives. But you’re getting compensated like never before. Don’t you think maybe your priorities are misplaced here?” Asked why he had not yet resigned, Mr. Calhoun replied he was “sticking this through.” “I’m proud of having taken the job. I’m proud of our safety record. And I am very proud of our Boeing people,” he said. Mr. Calhoun, who previously served as the company’s chairman, was named CEO in January 2020 after his predecessor, Dennis Muilenburg, was fired after the two fatal crashes involving the company’s 737 Max planes. #senate #joshhawley #boeing #boeing737 #cspan
