@_jen_hamilton_: #stitch with @Dr. Sahar the fact that you’re asking this question tells us that you are going to make incredible friends with the nurses there. 🥳Nurses…what else would you add?
I absolutely love these. If I’m truly not drowning in workload, I always grab my patients their requests like snack bag, blankets, urinal, etc. If I’m in the room to interview the patient, I’ll always do the undressing and hooking up to the monitor… bcz I’m in the room.. duhh 💞! These were such great tips that I hope tons of other residents also see. Thank you for your time responding to my video (sorry I’m just seeing it, didn’t really hit my notifications page)

I had a pt who was epileptic and was just having the worst day & needed ED care. When she came out of her postictal state, I walked in and almost dropped my supplies because the doc was sitting talking to her, and my pt was drinking ginger ale and munching on graham crackers. She had grip socks on, a new pair of sweats and had been cleaned up. She even BRAIDED her hair! It was an insane shift but this doc knew this sweet girl needed some love. I was coming in to clean her up - doc took care of it. Never in my life have I seen it and to this day she's my favorite.

I had a doctor bring my patient water. There may not have been ice, a lid, or a straw but he tried and it was the talk of the unit all night. A cup of water made him the best doctor to us

When doctors turn to me before leaving and hit me with the "do YOU need anything before I go?" that's good stuff

When the patient questions the nurse to you, back them up immediately. Respect their professionalism and expertise.

Recently in the ED, the doctor asked if I needed anything, I told him I was thirsty. This male physician brought me 4 juices, and a ton of crackers. Huge applause for not grabbing a nurse or other staff 💕

There's an ED doc that I respect so much, because during critical cases he would review the findings with the room, lay out his treatment plan, and ask for opinions from all of us.

As an OBGYN, I’ve had some great nurses who helped me get a patient complete and delivered after a long, difficult labor! When I was a brand new attending, I was about to call a section but an experienced nurse said “Dr. Godley, do you think we can try an amnioinfusion first?” I was like “OMG, yes, let’s do that!” And it worked. I have always valued the input of nurses, you guys are the heart and soul of L& D. ❤️

Our newest ED doc put a patient on a bedpan..he said “hey charge, I put room 3 on the bedpan, will you get a urine sample when she calls out”..I was flabbergasted at the “I put a patient on a bedpan” 🤯

If a nurse tells you they’re concerned, don’t ignore them. Please get up and come reassess the pt. Nothing irks me more than a doctor who doesn’t take a nurses concerns seriously.

I still remember walking out of the room of a very very sick patient who didn’t have an ICU bed yet. The patient next door needed a catheter for urinary retention, but I got stuck in this other patient’s room for a while. Walked out and the doc was walking back to the desk and casually mentioned he put the catheter in. I was like “I was trying to get to that.” He said “I knew you were busy and I had time. I know how to put them in. A nurse taught me once.” He acted like it was no big deal but it was a very big deal to me in the moment.

We have a doc who will turn over rooms when we’re swamped if she’s in between things.
