During the crash, Kennedy was thrown from the vehicle and ended up suspended high above the ground on an active power line. Trapped nearly 30 feet in the air, severely injured, and unable to free herself, Kennedy fought to stay conscious while people below waited for emergency crews to arrive. The injuries were so severe that some responders initially believed she may not survive. For over an hour, rescuers worked carefully around the dangerous situation, knowing that one wrong move around the power lines could put everyone at risk. When crews were finally able to reach her, Kennedy was rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered the full extent of her injuries. Kennedy faced a long road of recovery, undergoing numerous surgeries and eventually losing her leg as a result of the crash.
