Madden is available for adoption and is also seeking rescue placement. Although he was initially fearful when found, he has consistently shown himself to be friendly and easy to handle with people. He greets handlers with full-body tail wags, enjoys pets, takes treats gently, knows "sit," and has no issues with routine leashing or handling. Volunteers consistently report that he relaxes almost immediately once outside of his kennel, walking well on leash, enjoying time to sniff, and happily spending quiet one-on-one time with people. The shelter environment itself has become increasingly difficult for Madden. He has developed repetitive barking, pacing, high jumping in his kennel, and has been observed jumping high enough to get his head above the kennel walls. He also becomes highly reactive when walking past other dogs, barking, pulling, and fixating on them. Despite these behaviors in the kennel environment, he remains easy to handle and settles well once removed from it.
