@ourthirdimension: ⚠️Info: SpaceX has unveiled a redesigned Orbital Launch Mount at Starbase, Texas, highlighted by massive hold-down clamps that secure the Super Heavy booster during engine ignition. Recent viral videos showcase these giant clamps closing in near-perfect synchronization, like a mechanical iris, to distribute immense forces evenly from the 33 Raptor engines. Engineered with electromechanical actuators for faster, more reliable retraction and easier maintenance, the clamps rapidly swing open as the rocket ascends, clearing the pad while protecting hardware. This upgrade supports higher-cadence launches and follows successful static fires on the new system. It’s a striking example of SpaceX engineering pushing reusable rocket tech forward. as a quality control engineer in will be shocked if they manage to hit that rate for 4 hours but theres no way the mechanics can handle that rate sustained. maybe the mechanics can do the cycle but you have to clear and inspect and test after every launch and kinetics of the launch are going to damage the launch pad no matter what.

I am in no way an environmentalist, but I am a EE with extensive aero background. I’m curious how they plan to mitigate the massive environmental impact of 1 Starship launch per hour. That’s a lot of carbon dioxide and wastewater from sound suppression.

It’s only futuristic if it’s made of plastic and has LED lights on it. Ask China. 👍
