He knows his actions are hurting Nikki. She asks to be set free and his response is about himself. "is being with me that awful". he's selfish. yes he has moments where his inability to act causes harm but you cannot honestly be trying to justify that scene

this is why a lot of people call it Nice Guy horror instead of Incel horror. Just because he doesn't mean to do bad doesn't mean his indecisiveness and self centeredness doesn't. I kinda agree, a villain kinda need intend but I'd also argue between the dinner and the 'after' scene kinda demonstrates and intent to ignore bad things for his own self, hence probably just a standard villain

By very definition he is not a villain. I think the issue stems because people think every movie needs to have a definitive villain? Or maybe they just don’t understand words. He is a problematic protagonist. That doesn’t mean he is a good person just because he isn’t a ‘villain’. He is still a pathetic and desperate person.

For me it’s when he becomes the bad guy/villain or at start he’s just someone who made a bad decision but not necessarily a bad guy but as film goes on he becomes a villain as gets to clearly see how luck hurting her and clearly chooses to continues doing it - early in maybe day he doesn’t notice or didn’t belive in wish so someone making bad choices but not necessarily bad but instead of coming out to iterate and admitting what did chooses to let her suffer - simlair to doc watched at around same tlmr maternal instincts- she’s likes at first whole not good behaviour not really harming at that stage of admit it but gets so deep in lie commits horrible act
