@two.houses.into.one: How we’ve done it 👇 It’s never been one big thing really. It’s been hundreds of little things we’ve done over and over since they were little. We’re really careful with the words we use because they become our children’s internal voice. So instead of saying, “you’re naughty”, we’ll say something along the lines of “that’s a naughty thing you’ve done, and you’re not a naughty kid, you’re a good kid (or you’re a kind kid etc)” From them being tiny we’ve encouraged them to do things for themselves too. Ordering their own food in restaurants, talking to the cashier, paying for things. I reckon it’s all those little moments together that helps build confidence. The biggest thing though is our bedtime affirmations. Nearly every night we do a call and response: “You are brave.” “I am brave.” “You are kind.” “I am kind.” “You work hard.” “I work hard.” Etc And when they’re nervous about something, or if it’s a new situation like going into the shop alone, we’ll talk through what to expect and remind them to take a deep breath and tell themselves, “I can do this.” Which she said she didn’t need to do this time 😍 If you want a more in depth explanation drop us a comment, and we’ll definitely put a guide together or something like that ❤️ And also a massive thank you to @Screwfix too. We go to thro this branch so often that the team all know us super well, so we felt completely comfortable letting our daughter have a go by herself.
