VWAP (Volume Weighted Average Price) is one of the most respected institutional benchmarks in the financial markets. Unlike a simple moving average, VWAP calculates the average traded price while giving more weight to high-volume transactions, making it a true representation of where business has been conducted throughout the trading session. However, VWAP is not a buy or sell signal. Professional traders use it as a reference point to understand whether price is trading at fair value or becoming statistically extended. When combined with Standard Deviation (SD) bands, VWAP helps identify areas where price is moving further away from fair value, providing valuable context rather than automatic trade entries. In our trading approach, VWAP is only one piece of the puzzle. We don't enter trades simply because price touches VWAP or an SD band. Instead, we wait for those levels to align with our Order Flow interest zones—such as POC, VAH, VAL, or LVNs—and then look for confirmation through absorption, delta divergence, imbalances, and market structure. This confluence allows us to identify high-probability opportunities while avoiding low-quality setups. Remember: Indicators provide context. Order Flow provides confirmation.
