@coach_shenelle: If moderation had worked for people bariatric surgery wouldn't exist That's the conversation I wish more people were willing to have The surgery gave me a smaller stomach, but it didn't suddenly give me the ability to moderate foods that I struggled with for years For me, trying to make ultra-processed foods fit into my daily life was never freedom. It was exhausting I know there are people who can have one bite and move on I also know there are a lot of us who can't That's not a lack of willpower. It's knowing yourself well enough to protect the life you've worked so hard to build #bariatricsurgery
I cannot do a lot of sugar because I’ll dump and even being almost 4 years out. 5 months and eating cake I’d die lol and even now. I cannot do sugar. I just hit -230 lbs down

i really had to work to break up with food before my surgery. i'm not going to risk getting re-addicted to these foods by having them as an option at all, they don't come into my house. i only just now let myself reincorporate natural/no sugar added peanut butter back into my diet which I always weigh out exactly half a serving to add to my meal once a day. it's hard just even having it around sometimes, i know even now I could easily eat all my calories in one sitting from peanut butter alone, even with a smaller stomach.

It is definitely a slippery slope. At 5 months you are still in that honeymoon stage where you are losing weight without even trying. I am 20 years out. My stomach has stretched. Now I still can’t eat as much as before, but if I snack on high calorie foods all day, I can definitely self-sabotage!!

I hate when people say "so when can you eat normal food again" like what do you mean the food I'm eating is normal I just don't want a damn cupcake

Regain is the scariest concept for me. I’m 2 weeks post-op and I’ve considered “developing an allergy” to sugar. If I consider how deadly an allergy can be for some people and how sugar was slowly killing me, it’s not far off. But I’m trying to wrap my mind around just considering it (and explaining it) as an allergy so I can stay strong on this clean eating path.

If moderation was an option, I wouldn't have needed VSG. Publix cupcakes. if I eat one, I'll pace myself & eat 12. I'm never done eating before I'm done tasting so moderation can't ever be in the equation for me.
