@davidpainter4: 9-pin no tap fundraiser tournament: 4th place finish I bowled in a 9-pin no tap fundraiser tournament today at @The Alley. I finished in 4th place and per usual in 2026 I fell short yet again. One really awful break and a personal mistake stop me for making the podium and finishing in either 2nd or 3rd. I was only 32 pins out of 3rd place. That seems like a lot of shots/pins, but in game 5 I started out with the front 6 and in the 7th frame I had probably my best shot of the entire day. Everything went straight back into the pit, except for the 4-9… I proceeded to strike out after frame. I finished that game with a 266. If just one of those two pins goes down on that 4-9, with it being a 9-pin no tap tournament, it would have been a strike, and my score would’ve been a 300 instead of the 266. That’s a 34 pin jump just by 1 extra pin falling. That would have been the difference between me getting 3rd place instead of 4th. In games 1, 2, 4 and 5 I was above a 200. I had scores of 239, 208, 241, and 266 in those games. I started out by throwing the RST Hyperdrive and it looked great! But when my group moved to 11 and 12, I have no clue what happened, I just couldn’t get anything at all. I couldn’t get the ball to the head pin and when I made the smallest of moves it was right through the face. To give you an idea of how far off I was that game, if it was an 8-pin no tap I still would’ve only had 4 strikes… so many washouts, and so many splits. The personal mistake came in the 5th frame when I walked over to my bag and picked up my Concept because I thought I needed to make a ball change and I thought that ball was it, but I decided to put it back down and not switch. I ended up just trying to move around with what I was using. Just make small adjustments with what I had been throwing instead of making a ball change to something I hadn’t throw all day. After a horrendous 117 in game 3 I was pretty much forced to do something drastically different so I changed to the Concept for games 4 and 5 and it was obviously the right move. I only missed 2nd place by 65 pins which means game 3 needed to be at least a 182. If I didn’t second-guess myself in that 5th frame would/could I have bowled a 182? Maybe, maybe not. But just the fact that I second-guess myself and didn’t give myself that opportunity because of that mental/personal error makes it worse. Again if I made the switch would/could I have shot that 182? Who knows but looking back now I would have loved to have given myself that chance. But my motto for 2026 still stands, “it is what it is”. We did raise quite a bit of money for the two GHS students going on the band trip to Disney so all worth it in the end. Everybody that has kept their fingers crossed all year long for me that I get over the hump in 2026 please keep them there… maybe eventually it’ll work out🤞🫠 Balls used🎳 Storm Concept Roto Grip RST Hyperdrive #dpainterbowling #SquadRG #bowling #bowlingtournament #2handedbowling The Alley (423)-525-8784 Rocky Top Pro Shop Roto Grip A Place at the Beach VI, APATB, Unit C310 (423)-552-5921 Bowlifi Bowling Apparel Creating The Difference
