@carmscrolls: Sometimes you have to take a step backwards to figure out a better path forward 🤷♀️ #socialmediagrowth #contentcreator #careerpivot #quittingmyjob #personalbrand
I am actively trying to pivot out of digital marketing and social media. The masses have no taste and zero discernment. AI slop will suffice for most campaigns. Unfortunately, the number of companies willing to prioritize and pay for taste and a good eye will be few and far between. That’s how I see it, anyway. Worked as a social media manager or strategist for 10 years for two very prominent brands.

Do you have any recs about good online material/courses that would be helpful for marketing? They can be free or paid

How were you financially able to do this?! That’s the only thing holding me back-especially in this economy.

I worked in marketing & social media for other people for 10+ years and then pivoted back into my own content. Best decision I ever made.

As a fellow Torontonian who also made a major career pivot in my late 30s, essentially starting at the bottom of a new industry, it’s been a pleasure watching you thrive! And I completely agree: if you’re willing to put your ego aside and be patient, you can achieve big things.

Needed to hear this. I pivoted into marketing/Communications at 38 🙄 graduated from a program and now I'm trying to find a job in the field. I'm going to just let myself have that low ego and just do the damn things. It feels good to know I'm not too old. 💕

As someone who also made a late career change into something I was genuinely passionate about, I don't see my earlier years as wasted. Everything I did before gave me transferable skills that shaped the kind of professional I am today. It also gave me a level of perspective, maturity, and self-awareness that I might not have developed in quite the same way if I'd started earlier. Everyone's path is different, but for me, the detour ended up being an advantage.

This makes me feel good about my decision of wanting to switch to brand strategy even if it’s a lower salary but I know the opportunities will be plenty

“I knew I needed a better distribution strategy than just a portfolio”. I felt that. It’s not enough for me to have 20 years of experience producing for the biggest in pop-culture, now I have to use any extra time I have to rest to talk about myself.
