I have never understood doubling down instead of taking the evidence and adjusting accordingly. We are human. We’re going to be wrong about stuff.

well.. the bad in my case was that I accidentally discredited myself around people who wanted to discredit me. I bought in to one unverified story, and when I admitted I was wrong, my they used it as a way to dismiss everything else I said. My mistake, but it's very frustrating.

The confusion people get when you just own your mistakes and adjust is honestly its own reward. Watching them build up for this huge argument, and you just snatch it out from beneath them like a trap door.

I remember a poster claiming that you should turn off a feature on your iPhone to prevent something bad from happening, and her post went viral. Myself and a few others responded with factual evidence that her claim was false. She ignored it. Too often, people care more about going viral than they do about being correct.
