@decoderpod: Channels host Peter Kafka on the real value of broadcast TV in the streaming era: "The primary reason CBS and Fox exist is to distribute football." #nfl #streaming #tv #entertainment #sports
What decade was this video created? Live sports (including the NFL) are migrating to pay services. More each season. How does that make OTA “special”? Free “one to many” TV seems to be where broadcast radio was around 2005. And on the same trajectory- with a tipping point somewhere in the next decade. As radio is pushing congress to mandate AM in cars (which is silly), the discussions of some sort of congressional action to keep NFL on OTA TV also seems like a silly thing for the govts to be involved in.

Not Jeffrey :
It blows my mind that MLB hasn’t worked out OTA deals with these networks in more markets. Networks need content, MLB needs…..something, or a lot of somethings.

Agreed. Local news, political advertising and retransmission fees also generate very strong revenue for local TV.
