Alkebulan (or Alkebu-lan) is the oldest and only indigenous name for the continent of Africa. Translating roughly to "mother of mankind" or "the garden of Eden", the term was used by ancient Nubians, Ethiopians, Moors, and Egyptians to describe the land long before European colonizers named it Africa.
