@life.of.a.addict: Today my daughter accidentally broke a brand new flower vase. For just a second, I felt that familiar urge to react. To raise my voice. To let my frustration become hers. To say silly things. But then I looked at her face. She wasn’t being disrespectful! She was being careful. she was just as heartbroken as I was! Maybe more so... She wasn’t trying to make my day harder!! Yes, I was having a hard day, all day, as most days, lol!! BUT it had nothing to do with her. Shes a baby, a little girl who made a mistake… and in that moment, she was waiting to find out if my love was bigger than her accident, a broken vase. I REMEMBER THAT FEELING AS A CHILD!!! Our children don’t learn emotional regulation because we tell them to “calm down.” They learn it because they watch how we handle disappointment, stress, inconvenience, and frustration. If every mistake is met with anger, they’ll learn that anger is the language of hard moments. If every accident is met with shame, they’ll learn to hide the truth. If every problem is met with yelling, they’ll grow up believing and trusting the wrong kind of “love” But when they’re met with patience…winner. They learn that accidents can be cleaned up. They learn that honesty is safe. Honesty truly is the best policy. I promise. They learn that emotions don’t have to control their actions, they can feel all the feels and not react poorly. People often ask how to raise emotionally healthy children. The answer isn’t found in the perfect days. Nope. It’s found in moments exactly like this one. You can see I catch myself because it’s still not 100% easy and natural to have a calm response. It’s work and takes a second. I was raised very very different. I would have been yelled at, sent to my room crying, and told not to touch anything else. Made to feel like I ruin everything. Those are the moments that shape them. Not because of what happened… But because of how we responded. I’m far from a perfect mom. I still have moments where I have to catch myself. I still have to choose healing over habit. But every time I pause instead of explode, I’m proving that my past doesn’t get to parent my children. I’m teaching my daughters something I had to learn as an adult: Things break. People make mistakes. Life gets messy. But our home will never be a place where you have to fear my reaction more than the problem itself. One day my girls won’t remember the vase. They’ll remember whether they ran to me… or away from me. Because broken glass can be replaced. A child’s trust cannot. #accident #NewBeginnings #flowers #messy #pause

I'm confused on how people are upset with this response. it is an A+ in my opinion. It shows the child that it is ok to be frustrated or mad but that doesn't mean you get to blow up. it is also a great example of working through emotions in general and coming up with solutions instead.

And that is why she responded with “but then you don’t have one,you also picked flowers” ♥️you showed care for her situation and she gave it back to you. ♥️

You did amazing in this situation, I wish I was a more calm momma when things like that happened when my kids were little. I never knew that side of parenting till after I had my last child. I was 19 when I had my first pregnancy (I had twins)

The first time my kids acted scared when they broke something, it broke something in me 😔 I’ve spent the last 5 years reflecting on that and changing the way I react. I know this was hard and you did great.

She didn't comfort her probably because she was trying to stay calm herself, but also if you make it a bigger deal than it is, it makes the situation worse

The vibe in these comments is so off. You stayed calm. Allowed her to express her side, offered a solution, and showed an example of offering kindness in the resolution through sharing. Comfort isn’t always hugs and expressive reactions, it’s sometimes quiet, and calm, and problem solving together.
