Why did Jesus curse the fig tree? This is something many people struggle to understand. There are passages in the Bible that feel confusing the first time you read them, such as the fig tree being cursed. Some people think this was an emotional reaction from Jesus. But that is not the case. This was a reminder from God about a certain spiritual condition. Matthew and Mark chapter 11 record this event: Jesus entered Jerusalem, during the final week before His crucifixion. The crowd welcomed Him, but the religious system was full of hypocrisy. Jesus saw a fig tree full of leaves, but when He came closer, there was no fruit. And He said: “Let no man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever.” — Mark 11:14 (KJV) This was not only a warning for that time, but also a reminder for every generation. Jesus also said in John 15: “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.” — John 15:4 (KJV) What about us today? Many people’s faith is the same. They go to church on Sundays, listen to sermons, sing hymns, and say “Amen”. But after leaving church, daily life has very little of God in it. Very little living out of God’s teaching, and in some cases, even living in sin. Among believers, there is also very little conversation about: Are we drawing closer to God? Has my life changed? If someone has religious behaviour, but no change in life, no goodness, no faithfulness, no self-control, no fear of God, how does God view such a spiritual condition? Jesus already answered this through the fig tree. God does not look at religious activity. He looks for fruit. Whether there is real transformation of life. We often say: I go to church, I believe in God, I pray. But if none of these change your lifestyle, your words, and your choices, then it may only be “leaves”. No fruit. We are still living in grace today, still able to hear warnings, and still able to turn back. But the question is: Will this opportunity always remain? Looking at the confusion, coldness, widespread sin, and spiritual numbness in the world, all of this is a reminder that time is not as long as we think. If you find yourself in this condition: having an outward appearance of faith, but lacking real transformation, do not remain where you are. God gives opportunity not for us to stay the same, but to turn back. To reconnect with Him, and begin to bear fruit. If you want to go deeper in knowing God, and learn how to overcome sin, and prepare for the return of the Lord Jesus, you are welcome to join our online Bible study group. The Social Eclipse Destroying Our Homes What happens when the sun tries to become the moon, and the moon tries to become the sun? An eclipse occurs, and both lose the full effect they were created to have. In this powerful reminder, Sheikh Umar Sajid uses this striking analogy to explain what happens when the unique responsibilities of fathers and mothers are neglected or confused within the family. Just as a solar or lunar eclipse affects the natural order, a "social eclipse" can affect the stability of the home. Islam honours both parents with distinct and complementary roles. When these responsibilities are fulfilled with wisdom, mercy, and cooperation, children grow up in a healthy and loving environment. When they are neglected, it is often the children who bear the greatest burden. This reminder encourages Muslim families to return to the guidance of the Qur'an and the Sunnah, strengthen their homes, and raise the next generation upon faith, love, and responsibility. May Allah ﷻ bless our families, strengthen our marriages, guide our children, and make our homes places of peace, mercy, and righteousness. Ameen. 🎙️ Speaker: Sheikh Umar Sajid 📌 Subscribe to Dawah Insights for authentic Islamic reminders that strengthen your iman, build stronger Muslim families, and inspire you to live according to the Qur'an and Sunnah. 👍 Like • Share • Comment • Follow
