Honestly this doesn’t even sound that far off, after war, after world war 2, Japan fully rebranded themself with kawaii culture, hello kitty and kawaii in general being pushed by the government and completely washed away their history. Their kawaii culture originally kind of being propaganda for the country. I’m guessing DVA is kind of like that, the entire Mekka squad is for the countries PR. If they have these ‘adorkable’ cute teens fighting for their country and doing Aegyo sal for the camera it brings good attention to the country, and most likely boosts tourism and therefore gives the government more money. But their issue is after the omnivores war and everything, there’s really no use for the Mekka squad and therefore the hype will die down and eventually be done completely. And that’s where the robots are coming from, they need them to continue getting all this attention. And the more times they save the country the more they’re praised and the more tourism there is. Anyways thanks for coming to my ted talk please don’t chuck me in the loonie bin

I don't think lack of development should be a sign it's not a thing, overwatch was very stagnant for a long time in the lore department, we are just finally moving the needle in the timeline instead of just introducing someone that's "been here since the beginning" and then no story after

I could be mistaken, but if I remember correctly, they recently added a voice line into the game talking about how dva stole her mech from Korea and did not get clearance to join OverWatch

I like how they approach the lore , because it makes it seem more realistic because yes in the real world many stories are happening at one time and randomly appearing people in overwatch or talon would make sense because there is 8 billion other expendable people in the world to make stories out of in overwatch
