@bookswithamanda212: There’s a lot more I can say about this and I do think people who are my opposite, overtly sensitive and emotional, also need to do their work because it also is not always appropriate or healthy. BUT I wanted to specifically focus on the development of apathy that I’m noticing a lot more right now as a defense mechanism and why/how that can be problematic for you. Because like I said, it’s not inherently problematic but it CAN be in certain situations and with certain driving forces behind it. This isn’t something I’ve sat and thought through deeply, just a shower thought I wanted to share. But I wanted to give a word of caution as there’s so much content encouraging this sort of view on life without also warning you about how detrimental and problematic it can become. Balance is always key and you will have to work much harder the longer you let apathy or misanthropy fester in your soul. So address it now and work on undoing it before it undos you, because it will. #emotionalintelligence #emotions #apathy #healing #relationships

Hiii off-topic question but do you know about typology? And if you are familiar with it already, what's your typology? I'm really curious

i struggle with apathy when it comes to morals, principles and values. there are some things people do that i can’t wrap my head around and i always arrive at “you just shouldn’t have done it” 😭

Also sometimes I’ve been learning it’s ok to make mistakes and lose people because that isolation allows you to reflect and also consider the fact that you appreciate having people around and can be a motivator for wanting to be a better person, I mean no one really wants to be alone at the end of the day

I have AuDHD and ASPD so that being said, I have very low emotional empathy, guilt, and remorse, but I do have excellent cognitive empathy. Apathy is how I am about 80% or 90% of the time and I find it difficult to push through it, but I have many times. I’m lucky enough that I’m naturally super curious too, so I actually like to think about things and the only way I gathered the amount of cognitive empathy that I have and the opinions on specific things that I have, is because I took the time to think about these things and think about HOW I think about these things. When I see things on social media or on the Internet often, I will take time to think about things so I can see where my specific stance is on things. I don’t handle being stagnant well at all. There’s definitely a lot of things I have to kind of force myself to think about because I don’t even think about them because I don’t give a sh!t. But as I said, luckily for me, I am naturally very curious so I do think about things a lot. When it comes to people though, that’s where I struggle the most. Performative interest is super difficult for me to mask. I’m self focused so sometimes I don’t think about others abd have to remind myself to. Befriending people is hard. Cutting people off is easy. I am a very good friend. I’m loyal, dependable, protective, but I’m also apathetic to the person’s life and struggles a lot of the time, which means I have to fake caring about often. People may call me a bad or evil person because of the way my brain works, but I don’t personally think that I am because I actually take the time to think things through and understand myself and the world and choose to be friendly and understanding. I think no matter who you are, the most important thing is to always work on yourself and to push your boundaries. Don’t allow the apathy to keep you stagnant.

Human beings co-regulate. People are self isolating and pushing themselves into being miserable. They also develop agnosia and are unable to recognize how miserable they are.

Thank you. I needed to hear this perspective. Being vulnerable is hard because you get hurt and it bring so much stress so Ive been isolating most of my life, I get a friend, I think im going to fucc it up, I put them in a pedestal trying to do everything right, and end up just erasing myself, meaning I lose my sense of self, when I lose them, I find peace in isolation so I just dont let go of the "im better alone" narrative, which is not a lie completly, I hurt people and i feel hurt too, so skipping that part with isolation feels easy, I dont know how to break the pattern, I will start school soon I will try to socialize as much as I can but I feel I just havent cracked the code of being kind without diminishing yourself in the process

im naturally apathetic as well, but my loved ones would not describe me that way bc I put the effort in to be caring and thoughtful and if you need help im here for you, I feel like many interpret this as being fake but I feel like its just being mindful of my flaws and trying my best to create good rather than harm

you make great points but for a lot of people caring for others ends up not working very well at all. from autistic poeple who struggle making any friends at all to people pleasers who just end up being used and abused... like for some of us friendships just does not work and never will.

I lowkie do think I’m a naturally apathetic person. I prioritize friendships but there’s something within me that fundamentally is apathetic, not out of a place of hurt or anything it just is

Love this! Spent the last 7ish years working on it and it has improved my life more than I ever thought it would! A lot of things do not bother me, that truly bother people I love and I gotta show up for them. Especially since it’s things that do not make people selfish for wanting. I just do not care about those things for myself.

I am longing for friends but I know I have to address problems within myself first or those friendships won’t last. I want to hold myself accountable and be part of a village that I can also give back to. This is a major goal and focus of mine at this point in my life.

I don’t know who you are. But I want to be like you when am older. I am at a point in my life when I just made the realization that my apathy is a problem. And just started to work on it. Watching this video is almost seeing what I aspire to be in the clarity of how the action am making a conscious effort to change will change the way I approach relationship. And it was a very uncanny feeling because it hit a little to close to home as someone didn’t fully understand how to put this exact thoughts in words
