Small town tea is always 🔥. In my small town back in the 80s, my mum and dad were good friends with the neighbour and her husband around the corner. Our backyards actually connected and she babysat for a living, including babysitting me. I was around 4-5 when it came out that my dad was more friendly with the neighbour than he should have been. Her husband submitted a VERY detailed letter to the weekly church memo that went out to the entire congregation, outlining what my dad had been getting up to with his wife. Their affair broke up two marriages but it worked out in the end. Dad stayed with my babysitter for almost 30 years before he passed and she was the most amazing stepmum a person could ask for. My mum met a man who is the best stepdad I could ever have, who not only stepped up but went above and beyond. My stepmum's ex stayed in the house around the corner and eventually smoothed things over as much as could be with her and my dad. He would come over through our joined backyards and have visits with my dad and stepmum until he passed away. After my dad passed, my mum started inviting my stepmum to holiday dinners so she wasn't alone. My stepmum passed in December and my mum even catered my stepmum's funeral luncheon. Forgetting how their relationships began, my two sets of parents came together and were the epitome of putting the child first. Small towns are wild.
