@weddingprocass: After reading that article, my parents seemed to like town royalty lol are people still doing this? I do not read the newspaper enough or ever see these nowadays! #weddinghottake #weddingopinion #weddingplanningtip #weddingtiktok #weddingvendor

Not to mention the engagement announcements. I just thought of this recently too because my niece was recently engaged and is getting married next year.
I had a wedding announcement in the early 2000s. But, I am also engaged and did not do an annoucement. I doubt I'll do a wedding announcement either. I haven't read a printed newspaper in years. No idea if its still done.

1999 - we had engagement pics and wedding announcements in the paper. It was the highlight of the Sunday paper to see all your high school classmates getting married.

I loved looking at this back in the day. Weddings, significant anniversaries, 100th birthdays and obituries were in the same section. Articles were big or small as you had to pay by inch.

I got married in 1994. Engagements with pictures were put in. Sometimes there were weddings in there also. I miss them.

Just got married this year! When we applied for our marriage license, it asked if we wanted our names listed in the newspaper!

If not I'd like to bring wedding announcements back 27 dresses style. I don't know you but I'd love to know all the details of your wedding. I wanna know what kind of flowers you had, if your veteran double amputee father was still able to escort you down the aisle, what the menu looked like, etc.

I wrote my mom’s obituary and it cost $750. I doubt it is worth it since social media can do the same thing

Not only were there this kind of wedding announcements in the paper.. there were lists of who applied for marriage licenses .. both bride and groom's names and home town..there were also hospital admissions and discharges listed (the date name and town) and birth announcements as well.. parents names, sibling's names, sometimes grandparents names and where you lived

It was a big thing for the local society back in the day. Engagement announcements, wedding announcements and also being married 45 years or 50, both were announced locally along with what celebration was thrown. Told what trips they took.

It used to be a thing. I’d be surprised if it still were a thing.

Loved reading the wedding announcements every Sunday back in the 70s and 80s. I’m sure the internet caused the demise of this tradition.

40 years ago when I was 20ish, the bridal salon would give you a detailed description of the dress for the paper. It was a thing! Then in the late '90s, I lived in NJ for a while. I couldn't believe that it more-or-less listed their "pedigree", leading off with the professions of the parents in the Sunday NY Times! (I was told that a lot of them were involved in organized crime. I don't know about that part!)

No one gets newspapers anymore so I can’t see that happening. We didn’t do it for my wedding 36 yrs ago. I don’t remember anyone I know that did

I feel like this is something you would see in the society pages. I know my parent’s wedding announcement went into great detail about the wedding dress.
