If there’s even the slightest chance fairies live there, we’re stopping! Fairy Glen is one of the Isle of Skye’s most magical landscapes. Despite its name, it’s not actually tied to any historical fairy sightings. Instead, locals gave it the name because it simply looks enchanted, and it truly does! . You’ll stroll through emerald-green hills, tiny winding paths, unusual cone-shaped mounds, miniature lochs, and unusual rock formations - it truly feels enchanted. In Scottish folklore, fairies—or the Sìth (pronounced shee)—weren’t the tiny, friendly creatures you think of when you hear fairy. They were powerful, mysterious beings who lived alongside humans in a hidden realm. People believed they could bring good fortune OR lead unsuspecting travelers astray if they weren’t treated with respect. For centuries, stories of the faeries have been tied to Scotland’s landscapes, with certain hills, glens and ancient sites believed to be places where the veil between worlds was especially thin. Whether you believe the legends or not, Fairy Glen feels magical. It’s quiet, otherworldly, and one of those places where your imagination does most of the work. Make sure to add to your Isle of Skye itinerary. My tips: Fairy Glen is near the village of Uig on the Isle of Skye. There aren’t any signs, so you may have to ask a local. But if you’re driving from Portree, make the first left down the single road just after the Uig Hotel. The walk is short but uneven, so wear sturdy shoes. Even better if they are waterproof. Free parking is available nearby, but it fills up quickly during peak season, so arrive early if you can. Please don’t build, add tor remove any of the rock stacks. Always leave the landscape as you found; it helps preserve its magic for everyone else. Follow me for more whimsical stops on your Scotland roadtrip! #travel #travelcreator #scotlandtravel #isleofskye #fairy
