Even if you can’t control what she says, you can still tell her that what she’s doing is not OK and if she doesn’t listen, that’s on her but you as a person should stand up and say what’s right

As a Mexican American, I hate that very ignorant people in my community that have huge platforms and this is how we’re seen. I’m around a ton of educated Latinos that are very progressive, so it’s frustrating to see someone try to normalize the N word, and not truly understanding its history. I have never said it. Keep calling ignorant Latinos out. We have a lot of work to do on our community.

I’ma stand on this every time: Black culture isn’t something you can download or put on like an outfit. The way we talk, move, joke, create, dress, and express ourselves comes from generations of history, struggle, resilience, and community. That’s why it feels natural to us—it isn’t an act. People can copy the slang, the fashion, the music, or the energy, but they can’t copy the lived experience that created it. That’s the difference. Authenticity can’t be borrowed. When you’re born into it, you don’t have to rehearse it. You don’t have to study it. You just live it. That’s why you can usually tell the difference between someone who’s genuinely part of the culture and someone who’s trying to imitate it. This isn’t about putting anybody else down. Respect to every culture. But I’m never going to pretend Black culture hasn’t shaped the world in a major way. Influence is one thing. Authenticity is another. Some things come naturally because they’ve been lived—not because they’ve been copied.
