@urdailydoseofinternet28: During the 2017 iPhone X launch, Apple introduced Face ID on stage in a highly anticipated live demonstration led by Craig Federighi. The system was designed to showcase seamless facial recognition, but the demo did not go as planned when the device failed to unlock and prompted a passcode instead. The moment quickly drew attention because it happened in real time during one of Apple's most-watched events. Apple later clarified that Face ID had not malfunctioned. Instead, the device had been handled backstage multiple times before the presentation, triggering a built-in security mechanism that requires a passcode after repeated failed authentication attempts. This temporarily disables Face ID to protect the device, which is exactly what occurred during the demo. A second device was used shortly after, and Face ID worked as intended, demonstrating the feature successfully. Although the moment sparked immediate online reactions and brief market speculation, it had no lasting impact. Over time, Face ID became one of Apple's most widely adopted and reliable biometric systems, integrated into hundreds of millions of devices worldwide. What I like about my iPhone, is that every Samsung user I know can tell me what features it has or what’s in the latest update, whereas I couldn’t tell you anything about Samsung.

It didn’t even fail if you look closely it says password is required to enable face id and that’s a completely normal message you occasionally have to still enter your password into the phone after some number of unlocks for security reasons

It was a feature not a bug. Faceid will stop working after few unsuccessful attempts. Stuff was handling the phone prior to the event
