Isn’t this just orientalism? Orientalism is already problematic but at least the Asian roots are addressed

Miss Perfect 2 You 🎀 :
It’s called black nouveau because typicall it is Asian style mixed with the gold black and that whole panther and Egyptian aesthetic decor that was popular in many black homes in the early 2000s late 90s. The style is mainly lacquer and florals ,panthers, and lotus flowers , cherry blossoms meets dark golds and brass, panthers, cheetah, , frosted floral mirrors, you may see those long Egyptian cats with the pointy ears. Yes the style is rooted in Asian Art however black nouveau is its own thing so let’s not get ugly in these comments thanks .

This was my uncles house in 2005 but instead of pink it was red. So more masculine kinda but still so homey. Like ugh I’ve been searching for this vibe ever since and this is the closest I’ve found. Would love if I found the red version of this

wouldn’t it be better to call this blasian nouveau? i understand and respect that it was black people who tied it all together into cohesion, but it’s still almost all asian decor and influence, from the east to the south to the west asian art and cultural styles. in a positive light, with appreciation for asian culture, black culture came in and made a unique distinctive style. but in a critical light, this could also be considered orientalism if not given proper credit or distinction between various asian cultures. i don’t think it’s fair to only credit the black community when they made the composition, but the elements used are asian.

it’s also interesting because chinoiserie is just 17-18th century european’s fascination/fetishization with asia, so it ends up being more european than its influence
