my therapist's reaction was "you did what? 👀" and then we talked about it. he didnt try to sway me one way or the other, just helped me make sure I was confident in my decision, etc.

my therapist has only support me in my grief as i.went no contact. grieving the loss of the dream of the parents I needed. it helped me to get to acceptance. and now we are very low contact and I mostly gray rock

My therapist never said to go no contact. I was lying to him and me telling us both that I was ok with what the relationship was. I actually lost my insurance and my therapist before losing all tolerance and going no contact.

I started seeing a therapist a couple years after no contact. After we talked a little about it a couple times (it was never a focal point of the session), he did ask questions like if I was cut off to the idea of a relationship, so I think that setting up clear boundaries would help etc and I told him more details and everything I tried before making my decision, he dropped it. I feel like he really was trying to be helpful but understood and respected my decision.

my therapist never even told me to call my family abusive, she did ask a lot how I defined abuse and brought clinical references of power and control.

Therapist here! I always tell people no contact is last resort. Let’s put those boundaries up and see how people react and go from there.

my therapist told me good job was for me to not need him. when I finally felt i no longer needed his help, about 18 months later. he gave me a high five and said his favorite thing was losing clients like me. he is the reason im as healthy as I am

my therapist suggests nothing, my language is noted and reflected back for me to assess.

Therapists also give you tools for dealing with the behaviours that come and boundaries that are broken. Therapy is such a great experience but sometimes it takes years because you have to be open and accountable for your own behaviours as well.

My partner is no contact hasn't been to therapy because let's not forget that most children who were abused were groomed and conditioned to not speak outside of the home and shamed for therapy

My lovely therapist never tells me what to think. She asks questions based on what I've said and gets to the root of the issue. The CLOSEST she has ever gotten is after I was visibly upset discussing the behavior of someone, she asked if I felt I needed a break from the person for a couple weeks. Because I felt I owed my time and effort to this person to constantly be there for them since they helped me once and I have people pleasing issues. (My own words before I even started with her, not her telling me that.) And I did, so I could work on creating and communicating clear boundaries.

Mine helped me in every way to try to build a bridge 3x with no luck.. that’s when I realized didn’t matter how many times I changed my ways that person was never going to change their point of view let alone the attacks it’s also the day I stopped being a people pleaser then my therapist helped me work on myself and stop worrying about someone who couldn’t care enough to change their bad habits, and I stopped blaming myself.

My therapist told me that I needed to accept the person the way they are and be okay with it. I went no contact with the therapist too.

My therapist told me to write letters to every single person who would hurt me and not just like someone in traffic who made me mad, but someone who would physically been in my life and had done some damage my parents and things of such so I wrote the letters and then he told me after I wrote them to burn them he said so you can let go of all the things that have upset you that they have done. After I did all of that I made the decision to go no contact with one parent and limited contact with the other. I never told my therapist that I did it.

the only people blaming therapists for no contact are the people who think we can't make decisions for ourselves.
