Lobster Mini Season Series 🦞 During Florida’s lobster mini season, the most common and effective method for catching lobsters is using a tickle stick and a net — a gentle, hands-on technique that helps you stay legal and efficient underwater. Here’s how it works: 1. Spot Your Lobster
Look under ledges, in holes, and crevices where lobsters like to hide during the day. You’ll usually spot their long antennae sticking out. 2. Approach Calmly & Slowly
Don’t rush in. Lobsters are quick to bolt if they feel threatened. Approach low and slow to avoid startling them. 3. Use the Tickle Stick
Gently insert your tickle stick behind the lobster, ideally at the base of its tail. The idea is to coax or “tickle” the lobster forward and out of its hiding spot. 4. Guide It Into the Net
As it moves forward, place your net in front of the lobster’s path, keeping the net low and flat to the bottom. The lobster will usually walk or dart straight in. 5. Flip & Scoop
Once the lobster is in the net, flip the net over quickly so it can’t escape. Some divers also like to trap the lobster against the ocean floor with the net first, then scoop. 6. Measure Immediately
Before putting it in your bag, use a lobster gauge to measure the carapace (the hard shell from the eyes to the start of the tail). It must be over 3 inches to keep it. If it’s short — let it go! ✅ Gear Checklist: ✔ Tickle stick ✔ Lobster net ✔ Lobster gauge ✔ Gloves (optional but recommended) ✔ Dive flag (required by law) ✔ Mesh catch bag #spinylobster #miniseason #floridalobster #lobsterseason #oceantok #speartok #oceangirl
